DevilFish Notches First Win of Year
Date: January 18, 2009David “DevilFish” Ulliott recently won an event at the Irish Poker Champoinships in Galway. He outlasted a field of 126 opponents in a €750 event to take home the top prize of €33,000.
Early on in the event, DevilFish was able to pick up a lot of chips and then was able to use a big chip stack to control the competition and navigate his way through the field. The event had a lot of top European players. Marc Goodwin just missed the final table of the event, finishing in 10th place.
Ulliott and Surinder Sunar both headlined the final table. In the end, it was both Sunar and Ulliott that battled heads-up for the title. According to Ulliott, “I got a lot of chips early in the tournament which meant players were moving in with all sorts of marginal hands. I got lucky once against Paul Jackson with A-J against his queens and when I got heads up against Surindar Sunar I don’t think he won a hand.”
The results for the final table are below:
Place Name Prize
1st Dave Ulliott €33,000
2nd Surinder Sunar €20,000
3rd Donal Norton €13,000
4th James Daley €7,500
5th Paul Jackson €5,500
6th Jude Ainsworth €4,000
7th Mark Spellman €3,000
8th Aidan Cullinane €2,500
9th Alan Trueick €2,000
Ulliott told reporters, “It’s great to get the year off to a winning start and I hope I can continue the form Down Under.”
